Making UChicago's coffee experience convenient.

Problem - Lack of convenience results in a lack of customers

Busier students are prone to skip their long waits for coffee when ordering coffee is inaccessible online. The inconvenience results in decreased customers, revenues, and product waste.

Research - Students are too busy to wait in lines.

As a busy student, I began this concept from my own experiences, as I found it inconvenient to wait in lines that could be exponentially quicker if online systems were available. To support this observation, I conducted a couple field observations, and interviews from other UChicago students, and cafe part-time workers to support my painpoint assumptions.

Competitor Analysis

Knowing that many coffee apps and services already exist, I took inspiration and compared with notable coffee businesses.

The unique aspect of competitor ideas included personalization, visual marketing, and convenient orders.

Ideation - Wireframing —> Prototyping

The ideation began where initially I iterated on low-fidelity wireframes to get the base UI idea created.

I decided to incorporate several key features that other coffee apps succeeded in: customization options, personalized profiles, and visual marketing (recommendations/featured items).

User-Centric Design

Our solution consisted of innovating a mobile application that allows students of UChicago to conveniently place coffee orders online while having more incentives to order.
